Kitchen Aid Artisan Stand Mixer - An Obsession Gone Wrong

It was never my idea to buy a mixer Kitchen Aid or otherwise. So the choice of colour was also not mine.

                                                                Picture of our mixer

It got occasional use before I started using it for bread making. But now the mixer is used at least once a week, if not more.

I know its better to make bread by hand, to feel the dough. But these are just a few of excuses why I don't do it by hand any more.

Time - less time available, with a mixer I can multitask while its doing the heavy work

Injury - After a fall down the stairs my wrist is not what it once was

Laziness - Its there why not use it, we didn't buy it just to take up worktop space!

The only non standard accessories we have are the sausage maker and the glass mixing bowl

Sausage Maker

Its great for grinding the meat and making a batch of sausages to your own tastes.
Some times it can get clogged which i was told was because the meant and fat wasn't really cold. Keeping it really cold helps to stop it clogging the holes.I also recommend grinding the fat, after all the lean meat has been ground.

Glass Bowl

Is a lot more stylish than the standard metal bowl. But it is a lot heavier and not all scales can handle its weight so you can measure directly into it.

Downsides

The only shortcoming I think the mixer has is that you cannot buy a spiral dough hook for the Artisan.
Which is what I thought until recently.

The Artisan mixer has served us well over the years and is so well made I am sure it will last many more years to come.

Treat yourself and buy yourself a good quality mixer you wont regret it. If you bake regularly its a helpful addition to the kitchen and soon becomes a part of the family.
