Door Stop DIY

So we needed a door stop to keep the door open when the fire is going or for ventilation in a hot summer. Looking around we saw a few that we liked made out of large squares of wood with a large rope attached. Nice and chunky but at £30 a bit pricey. I wondered if i could make something myself that would look nice and do the job just as well.

But after a look around the wood pile, I found a few rounds of oak from a company I used to work for, they were going to be thrown in a skip before I rescued them. I never burn interesting looking wood, I know I am strange but I always think it might be useful in the future.  So I thought why not make a round door stop instead of a square one.

In the garage of saved junk for future projects there was a 8mm eye bolt similar to this.

The wood rounds were arranged off centre to each other in an arty kinda way. The rounds were then clamped together to prevent them moving. Using a long 8mm drill bit I drilled a hole through the wood rounds.

After a few coats of Osmo oak protection oil, the finished article.

Very pleased with how it ended up, nice weight to it so its not going any where in a hurry.

As the keen eyed of you will notice the 8mm eye bolt was too short to go through all the rounds of wood. So luckily I also had some 8mm stainless steel rod that I used to extend the eye bolt so it would go all the way through.

The white you can see on the bottom piece of wood was a scrap piece of lino, stuck with wood glue to the base to prevent scratching of the floor. It needs to be trimmed a little so it cant be seen, but other than that a quick cheap door stop project.
